Taking One Tank Trips
You can’t turn on the news or strike up a conversation with someone on the street without hearing about gas prices. It seems there is no end to how high they may go, and there is an increase overnight many times a week in some cases. It is defeating, especially for those families that have no choice but to drive for work, and for those that are living from paycheck to paycheck most of the time. When it comes to vacations, one tank trips are becoming more and more popular.
What is great about these one tank trips is that anyone can take them. The trick is figuring out just how far you can get with just one tank, and what you can find within that distance. In order to take a trip with just one tank of gas, you have to figure out what your gas mileage can be. The problem with that is that this changes each time the gas prices go up. However, you will just have to do the best that you can. You may want to overestimate a bit for your one tank trips so that you are close to the mark when you leave.
Once you know how far you can go on a half of a tank of gas (you need the other half a tank to get home), you can then look at a map to see how far you could go. You may want to stop a bit short, just incase. Make a circle on a map going around your town so you have your options in all directions laid out for you right away. You may already have an idea where to go for your one tank trips, but this helps if you really have no idea. You may be surprised to see how far you really can go for a trip on one tank of gas, even with prices as high as they are at the present time.
Though you may have to take one tank trips because of the economy and current prices, you shouldn’t feel as if you are missing out on anything. There are plenty of amazing places near where you live, no matter where you live, that you may not have taken the time to see and experience. We don’t always see what is nearby because it feels familiar, even when you haven’t been there. Taking the time to explore places near home can be just as rewarding as jetting off to an exotic vacation spot somewhere far from home.
